Computer Won’t Turn On

The scariest thing that can happen to your MAC or Windows computer is its failure to turn on. You press the little power button and nothing happens. No startup beep or picture displayed on the screen. The light on the desktop monitor is on, but your computer is totally dead.

First of all, don’t panic! When people face this kind of problem, they tend to panic and worry that all their important data on their PC or MAC is gone. Most likely, your documents and pictures are safe, just not accessible at the moment. It is best to leave the computer off and call a professional to look at it.

Noisy Computer

New computers generally run quietly compared to older computers. Newer hard drive technology has vastly improved the noise factor we were used to with older hard drives which used to grind away as they accessed your data. Nowadays, if you notice clicking or grinding noises coming from your PC, it can be a sign of a faulty hard drive or cooling fan. These issues can be particularly serious because if your hard drive is starting to fail, you can risk unrecoverable data loss the longer your hard drive spins. You’ll want to shut your PC down immediately and have a technician look at it before more damage is done and data is unrecoverable. The same goes for failed cooling fans which can cause CPU failure. Our general rule of thumb, if your computer is making weird noises, turn it off and call us.

Your Operating System Fails to Start

This can happen suddenly and without any visible cause. Sometimes your computer begins to load but after some time stops responding during start up process. This problem can be caused by many factors.

Your computer can try to load windows from removable media. First of all check and remove any CD’s, DVD’s, USB flash drives, memory cards. Remove any digital cameras or external hard drives. Try to restart your computer. If it fails again something else is causing the problem. If your desktop displays an error during start up, this is probably caused by a Windows update issue, driver conflict, malware or hardware configuration problem. Your motherboard, CPU, memory or graphic card may have developed a problem as well.

Computer Freezes and Restarts

This may be one of two kinds of problems causing your computer to freeze and restart. First and most probable is a software problem (Windows or Mac). Viruses, Trojans, rogues and other adware can cause system instability. When systems detect a problem they may crash and restart to prevent future damage. These problems can be solved by cleaning unwanted programs and spyware, upgrading drivers or reinstalling operating system. Our computer technicians can diagnose and fix the problem allowing you to be back up and running quickly.

Second, and more serious, are hardware problems. Memory failures or a computer overheating are the most probable causes for computers freezing and restarting.

When you machine overheats it becomes unstable and sends a signal to restart. There are more hardware faults that can cause computer freezes. Faulty power supply, graphic card, processor or even hard drives can cause this kind of problem. Our PC technicians will try to test your computer on site. Sometimes it requires more serious testing. For this we may require the work be done at our office. We will take your faulty desktop PC to our repair facility and return it in working condition. It depends on the problem, but usually repairs take from 1 to 3 days.

Computer is Too Slow

Slow computers can become such a headache! There are a multitude things which can cause your computer to run slow such as a lack of memory, bloatware, a hard drive nearing capacity, viruses & malware, or simply the fact that you’ve outgrown your system’s processing power.

Printer, Keyboard or Mouse Doesn’t Work

Problems with peripherals can happen suddenly. Yesterday, everything was working fine, and suddenly no printer, mouse or keyboard at all. In most cases this problem can be caused by driver issue. First of all try to connect your faulty hardware to another USB port. Sometimes this helps to repair minor faults.

In a few cases, the problem can be the result of faulty hardware. If none of your peripherals connected through USB are working, this is probably a motherboard fault. If you have a wi-fi printer and it is not working, this can be caused by a driver issue or it lost wi-fi connection to your router.

Screen Doesn’t Display Anything

You turn on your desktop computer and you can hear it starting up, but your screen doesn’t show anything or it displays “no signal found”. This can happen for many reasons. If you moved your computer recently, please check all your cables. They might be loose and the computer is unable to send the video signal. If your cables are all secure, you could try to connect your monitor to another computer. Perhaps your monitor is faulty?

Display issues may also be a result of a faulty graphics card. If the steps mentioned above did not solve your problem, you should contact a professional computer repair technician.
